Twenty-eight more sleeps until we board the plane and head to Barbados! There is a bit more to think about this time around travelling with the sprog, but right now at the top of my list is planning where to eat and drink during our visit. We don’t normally worry about booking restaurants until we land but as we’re arriving on the island in the middle of the peak season this time we want to be a bit more organised than usual and book some of the top eateries now.
For me, no visit to Barbados would be right without a trip (or several actually!) to the Lone Star. My favourite thing to do is head down there for a lazy lunch, watching the waves and chilling out with a nice chilled glass of wine. You don’t necessarily need to book for lunchtime but if you do you’re more likely to get a waterfront table.
The bar at the Lone star is also a great hangout spot and the cocktail list is pretty good too so if you’re planning to go for dinner I would recommend getting there a bit early to enjoy a drink before you sit down.
I also really enjoy dinner at Tides. The beachfront setting is something else and the food is delicious. The bar here is also lovely and they have a fantastic art gallery displaying pieces by local artists which is well worth a look at.
On our last visit to Barbados we rediscovered The Fish Pot, which is on the way to Speightstown. Again, a great setting right on the waves, really good food and top service. Well worth a trip.
But it’s not all fine dining in Barbados and some of our favourite meals have been just down the hill at Just Grillin for some jerk chicken or catch of the day. If you go you must try the carrot cake (my personal favourite!) or the cheesecake. Both the best on the island in my opinion.
Or if you want to be like a local, head to the Island Grill (on the left-hand side of the road just before you reach Limegrove) to grab some jerk chicken and rice and peas. It’s ideal for grabbing a take away to take back to the apartment and enjoy sitting on the balcony at Star Gazer.
With so many lovely restaurants to choose from it’s easy to eat out all holiday, but we also love to eat in and enjoy a night at the apartment. We often take a trip to see Smokey at the Fish Market on the way to Speightstown. A visit there at the beginning of the week normally gives us enough fish to last the entire trip. It’s fresh and delicious and perfect for throwing on the BBQ while we take a quick dip in the Jacuzzi and watch the sun go down!
Of course there are lots of other lovely places to dine in Barbados, but these are just a few of my personal favourites. Hope you enjoy!
